Brief
To build a Wooden Shed around a pre cast slab, making use of four steel posts that the client had lying about
Key Features
Uniformly spaced cladding installed to allow for natural airflow and effective drying
Over-sized angled roof designed to protect the shed’s contents from the elements
Construction adapted to utilize client-supplied materials and built around an existing precast concrete slab
Rubber roofing material installed, complete with manufacturer’s guarantee for durability and weather resistance
This was quite an interesting build and one of my first clients as it happened. The slab was already cast and I was given four steel posts that the client had lying about and wanted to use in some way. We naturally used the posts to form the corners and the remainder of the building was straight forward. Due to the posts being angled we faced these outwards to fix the beams through the steel and then we were able to house the timber post nicely into the angle to form the corners.
The other posts were housed in steel post holders. The cladding was uniformly spaced allowing the wood to dry naturally and the roof was over-sized to shield the building from the rain as much as possible. This was my first rubber roof and went really well. I have since completed a rubber roof installation course and can offer guarantees on all rubber roofs. I have installed fibreglass in the past but would choose rubber over fibreglass going forward, purely for ease of installation.

Brief
To make improvements to the appearance of this log cabin.
What we did
We took out a post and rail fence and excavated the field immediately in front of the log cabin
We built a retaining wall and faced it in Yorkshire stone and cobbles
The fence was reconstructed to the edges of the new wall to keep livestock out
The wall was topped by treated railway sleepers which were extended to created planted flower beds and an access path.
We created a paved outdoor seating area, planted the beds, landscaped and re-seeded the field and created a gravel path.
